In what could be called a sweet initiative, Muzaffarnagar is hosting a first-of-its-kind Gur Mahotsav (jaggery festival) at the end of this month.Scheduled to begin on May 30, the three-day festival promises to bring together different stakeholders involved in the research, production and marketing of jaggery. The event is being organised under the State government’s ‘one district, one product’ scheme, in partnership with private players, and will focus on issues such as packaging and marketing of jaggery and sugarcane juice, more efficient prototypes and working models of crushers and ways to increase the production of organic gur.

Dussehra marks the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana. The festival is celebrated with Ramleela performances and the burning of large effigies of Ravana, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.

Maha Shivaratri is celebrated with devotion in Shiva temples across Muzaffarnagar. Devotees fast, perform rituals, and offer milk and bel leaves to Lord Shiva.

Eid al-Fitr is widely celebrated by the Muslim community. People offer special prayers at mosques, wear new clothes, and share delicious dishes like sevaiyan with family and friends.

Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Homes and markets are decorated with diyas and lights, and people burst firecrackers, exchange gifts, and perform Lakshmi Puja.

Holi is one of the most vibrant festivals in Muzaffarnagar. People celebrate by throwing colors, dancing, and enjoying sweets like gujiya. The festival also includes Holika Dahan, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.
