Police have returned Rs 4 lakh in cash, found scattered in around a dozen bundles on the Meerut-Karnal highway in Shamli district, to its rightful owner, officials said on Saturday.
After a local resident alerted authorities about the money — comprising six bundles of Rs 500 notes, four bundles of Rs 200 notes and two bundles of Rs 100 notes — lying on the road near Kabaraut village on Friday, police recovered it and deposited it in the evidence room, Additional Superintendent of Police Sumit Shukla said.
